Setting up your email in Apple Mail
1. You should see the icon for Mail in your dock (it's installed by default in OS X):
2. Click on Mail > Preferences:
3. You should see this dialogue box:
4. Click on the little '+' icon at the bottom to set up a new account:
5. You'll need to set up your incoming mail (your POP):
Account Type: POP
Description: Anything you want (make it memorable!)
Incoming Mail Server: pop3.powernet.co.uk
User Name: This is whatever your Powernet username is (e.g. yournodename)
Password: Your Powernet password.
Mail will now check the connection to your POP box. If you have entered your information correctly, Mail will then move on to the Outgoing Mail dialogue.
6. Setting your Outgoing Mail (SMTP):
Description: Again, anything you want.
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.powernet.co.uk
Use Authentication: Yes (ticked)
Password: Your Powernet password.
Mail will now check the connection to the SMTP server. If you have entered your information correctly, then you will see the summary dialogue:
If you want to connect to your mailbox and download your mail straight away, leave the "Take account online" box ticked. If you untick it, your account will be 'offline". This means no emails will be downloaded to your Mac, and Mail will not automatically connect to your mailbox.
You will be taken back to the Mail options dialogue. Click on the Advanced tab on the right. Make sure the following options are set:
Port: 995
Use SSL: Yes (ticked)
Authentication: Password
You're done! Close the preferences dialogue and start sending & receiving emails!
