If you need to re-enter server information for any reason, you will require the following settings. This situation may occur if you reload any software, change a package you are using, or have to reload all your settings due to computer failure.
The following questions and answers may help you re-establish your dial-up connection settings.
What is my IP address?
IP addresses are unique identifiers, similar to a phone number, which are used to locate your computer across the Internet. These addresses are assigned dynamically whenever you log on to the Internet.
Some accounts are assigned static IP addresses by Powernet to allow for services such as SMTP feeds. If you are unsure, please telephone the Power Internet helpdesk on 01908 242103 and we will advise if this is the case for your account.
Why is an IP address number used for a name server?
In order for your PC to locate URLs, it must first query a domain name server. To do this, it uses IP addresses to locate the name servers directly.
What are the DNS (Domain Name Server) settings?
There are two DNS servers, Primary and Secondary, and these servers are used to match URL names to IP address numbers. Powernet's DNS server IP Address numbers are as follows:
Primary - 195.60.0.1
Secondary - 195.60.0.5
